A Chance to Learn and Thrive
In Malaysia, thousands of refugee children face barriers to education and safety. Refugee families often live in poverty, making basic necessities like schooling inaccessible. Without legal status or sufficient resources, many children miss out on the chance to learn and build a brighter future. According to recent data, only 30% of refugee children in Malaysia are enrolled in informal education, leaving many vulnerable to exploitation, child labor, and early marriage.
Community Learning Programs
Education is every child’s right.
Refugee children in Malaysia struggle to access formal schooling due to legal, financial, and social barriers. To address this, UNHCR Malaysia works with community-based organizations to establish learning centers that serve refugee children. These centers provide basic education, life skills training, and psychosocial support.
Take the story of Aisha, a 10-year-old who fled Myanmar with her family. In her first year as a refugee, Aisha was unable to attend school and spent her days helping her family sell goods. Thanks to the support of a UNHCR learning center, Aisha now attends classes, dreams of becoming a teacher, and has hope for a better future.
Ensuring Every Refugee Child Has a Chance
UNHCR Malaysia believes that every child deserves protection and opportunities to thrive, no matter their background or nationality.
With your help:

Refugee children can access education,
opening doors to better futures.

Families can receive vital aid,
reducing the risks of exploitation.

Communities can be empowered
through awareness and skill-building programs.
Today, over 50,000 refugees under the age of 18 are registered with UNHCR in Malaysia. Many more remain unregistered and live in dire conditions. Your contribution ensures that these children are given the care, support, and hope they desperately need.
